FAQs
In Australia, electric bikes must comply with the regulations for electrically power-assisted cycles (EPACs). These bikes must:
- Have a maximum continuous rated power of 500 watts
- Ensure power assistance is:
- Gradually reduced once the speed exceeds 6km/h
- Completely disabled when:
- The bike hits 25km/h, or
- The rider stops pedalling and is travelling above 6km/h
These standards are designed to ensure e-bike safety and legal operation on public roads.
Please check the rules and regulations in your state.
Yes – according to Fatboy Bikes, all models are built with a maximum continuous power output of 500W and are speed-limited to 25km/h, with a maximum load capacity of 180kg. This design aligns with current NSW EPAC requirements.
However, we recommend checking your local state or territory regulations before riding your Fatboy e bike on public roads or shared paths.
By law, the electric motor must stop providing assistance when your speed exceeds 25km/h. You can, however, ride faster by pedalling on your own or going downhill.
On private property, Fatboy Bikes can be unlocked to reach top speeds of 55–60km/h – but these settings are not road-legal and should only be used off-road.
Fatboy e bikes are rated to carry riders and gear up to 180kg. This makes them suitable for a wide range of riders and heavier-duty use.
